Short of the Day #44
Federico Fellini adapta Edgar Allan Poe.
Federico Fellini meets Edgar Allan Poe. With a speedy Ferrari in the middle.
The themes of stressed-out celebrity and corrupt genius are brought up to the screen through surreal visions of deranged passer-bys and limousines that look like coffins on wheels in the simultaneously timeless and unrecognizable Rome of TOBY DAMMIT (one of three segments from 1968's HISTOIRES EXTRAORDINAIRES. And there's Terence Stamp, with a look that would perfectly fit in Vincent Price, a Federico Fellini's hero with only one thing in his mind: to drive the Ferrari he's been promised as a reward for starring in a "Biblical-Marxist Western".
