É na memória da filosofia e prática do Centro de Arte & Comunicação Visual (Ar.Co), devidamente explicadas através de imagens de arquivo (reviver a obra de Lourdes Castro é sempre agradável) e da leitura de textos "pedagógicos", que O INDISPENSÁVEL TREINO DA VAGUEZA extrai o seu maior poder de atracção, demonstrando, de forma sensorial, a defesa da intuição em detrimento da teorização da actividade artística postulada pela escola. Mas o filme, ao enveredar pela exibição do casal de realizadores, em introspecção (ou será teorização?) sobre o seu passado e presente, quase que acaba por contrariar a própria matriz que notabilizou o Ar.Co.

It is in the memory of the Centre for Art and Visual Communication (Ar.Co) philosophy and practice, duly explained through the use of archival footage (and it is always nice to relive Lourdes Castro's work) and the reading of "educational" texts, that O INDISPENSÁVEL TREINO DA VAGUEZA (a.k.a. THE INDISPENSABLE PRACTICE OF VAGUENESS) becomes totally fascinating, demonstrating, in a sensory fashion and as postulated by the school, the advantages of intuition above any theorized artistic activiy. However, the movie nearly contradicts the very essence of what made Ar.Co so remarkable, by embarking in the observation of the pair of directors reflecting (or should we say theorizing?) about their past and present.
