Emigrada durante anos no Brasil, Carmen regressa à sua aldeia natal e cedo nasce uma ansiedade latente em seu redor: fantasmas do passado, a perturbação presente no seio de uma família humilde e o futuro sempre incerto. ENTRE O DESEJO E O DESTINO, uma das primeiras obras de Vicente Alves do Ó, emula o melodrama clássico de Douglas Sirk, através do conflito íntimo das suas personagens femininas e de uma sociedade que resiste à irredutível mudança dos tempos.

Carmen, who has lived for several years in Brazil has an emigrant, returns to her home village and soon a latent anxiety grows around her: ghosts of the past, the present disturbance within a humble family and the always uncertain future.
