  • A DISTANT EPISODE (Ben Rivers)

A meditation on the illusion of filmmaking, shot behind-the-scenes on a film being made on the otherworldly beaches of Sidi Ifni, Morocco. The film depicts strange activities, with no commentary or dialogue; it appears as a fragment of film, dug up in a distant future — a hazy, black and white, hallucinogenic world.

  • A GLÓRIA DE FAZER CINEMA EM PORTUGAL / THE GLORY OF FILMMAKING IN PORTUGAL (Manuel Mozos)

On 18 September 1929, José Régio sent a letter to Alberto Serpa expressing his desire to create a production company and start making films. For almost 90 years, nothing more was known: no reply was ever found and Régio never mentioned the subject again. The discovery of some old reels in a collector’s hoard seems to provide the ending to the story.

É a minha mãe." Danielle Arbid.

"A woman drives around Beyrouth and talks on the phone. She is calling a bank. She is calling those who owe her money. She is calling those who lend and those who borrow. She’s my mother." Danielle Arbid.

  • BABOR CASANOVA (Karim Sayad)

  • Argel, 2015. Adlan e Terrorista procuram, desesperadamente, arranjar alguns dinares.

Algiers, 2015. Adlan and Terrorist desperately try to make a few dinars. Between small deals and unofficial parking service, they wait for the weekends and the Mouloudia’s soccer games. There, they can forget the emptiness of their daily lives, sing their love for the team and dream about the boat that might, one day, take them far away from this unforgiving country.

  • DIARIO DE UN CORTO / DIARY OF A SHORT (Flavia de la Fuente)

  • SCHICHT / SHIFT (Alex Gerbaulet)

SCHICHT is both a reckoning and a search for traces of the past. Layer by layer the film unfolds the portrait of the filmmaker’s family – brought to life by records from private archives – and embarks on a dizzying trip through the shrinking industrial city of Salzgitter, Germany.
